Preparing for Your Appointment
We hope to make your visit at Lexington Eye Associates as pleasant and efficient as possible.
What to Bring to Your Appointment
- Your medical insurance card(s)
- Referral from your primary care physician
Many HMOs and insurance companies will not permit a visit unless a referral has been obtained in advance of the visit. We ask that you obtain any necessary referrals so that you will be assured that your insurance company will pay for the visit.
It is also helpful to our staff and physicians if you bring the following:
- Most recently used eyeglasses
- Contact lens prescriptions (this may be on your contact lens case or vial)
- List of all your current medications and any allergies you may have
- Name and address of your primary care physician, as well as the physician who referred you to our practice
Your Eye Examination
Most routine visits will last about one hour. If additional testing or treatment is required (such as visual field testing or photography), the visit will be longer. For example, new glaucoma evaluations often last about two hours as multiple diagnostic tests are performed.
We will make every effort to adhere to the daily appointment schedule. However, occasional unforeseen emergencies can result in delays or make it necessary for us to change your appointment time. We understand that your time is valuable and will make every effort to minimize these inconveniences to you.
Your visit will begin with one of our ophthalmic technicians taking your history and performing the initial portion of your examination. Our technicians are carefully trained and supervised by our physicians in the performance of these duties. Your diagnosis and treatment will be provided by your ophthalmologist or optometrist.
Going Home After Your Appointment
A complete eye examination will usually include dilation of one’s pupils in order to fully examine the retina and other structures in the back of the eye. Following dilation, your near vision will be blurred. Although most people can drive safely with dilated pupils, some find driving and working difficult for several hours afterwards. In order to be prepared, please bring sunglasses with you. You may also want to arrange for someone else to drive you home. For several hours following your appointment, you may want to avoid doing near-sighted work.
Payment Policies
Lexington Eye Associates will submit claims to your HMO or insurance company. Co-payments are due on the day of examination. If your appointment is not a covered service with your insurance, we ask that you submit payment at the time of your visit. Feel free to direct your questions or financial concerns to our billing department at 781-862-1706. They will be happy to assist you if you are having any difficulty.
Contact lenses and office visits related to contact lenses are usually not covered by most insurance programs. However, many insurances do offer discounts. Please contact your insurance carrier to find out about your coverage. Contact lenses must be paid for at the time of pickup or prior to mailing.
