Cornea

The cornea is a transparent dome of tissue that covers the iris in the front of the eye. It is an amazing structure that focuses images to the retina in the back of the eye, providing clear vision. In fact, the cornea provides the majority of the focusing power of the eye. Without a clear or intact cornea, vision would be obscured, and images would not be focused appropriately to allow for crisp vision. There are numerous diseases that can affect the cornea and thus interfere with a person’s vision. This can range from conditions such as dry eye syndrome, to genetic diseases, to infections, or traumatic injuries.

At Lexington Eye Associates, we are pleased to be able to offer patients with state-of-the-art treatments and surgical care for corneal disease.

It is an exciting time in the field of corneal disease treatment, with technologies and new surgical procedures revolutionizing patient care and outcomes. We are proud to offer a full range of diagnostic and testing equipment capable of screening patients for disease and monitoring responses to treatment. Beyond diagnostics, we offer patients the most advanced, cutting-edge techniques in corneal surgery and procedures. Dr. Jeremy Kieval is a board-certified ophthalmologist who completed subspecialty training in cornea and external disease at the world-renowned Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, US News and Report’s top eye hospital in the country for the past seven years.
